Are you still hunting this bird?

Let me begin by telling you that it is a test of patience - at least it was for me. First - how to set the conditions:

Start by teleporting to the Jahara crystal and enter the Osmone Plain from there. This will take you right to the Haulo Green area of the Plain. Kill the first set of Black Chocobos and then proceed from the apron down to the right and kill the second group of three Black Chocobos. Leave the Haulo Green area and zone two areas away - then return to Haulo Green.

Set your gambits to have your team Foe any: Break and if you take damage from the Chocobo attacks - Foe any: Sleepga. At my levels and armor the Chocobo attacks did nothing so I did not bother with Sleepga. In any event - the birds must be petrified. The reason is that when they die thru petrification - they will respawn without zoning back and forth. Now even though you have your gambits set - take manual control over the Vipers. Better to kill these nuisances so that they do not return rather than Petrify them and have them keep coming back.

Go and Break the group of Chocobos up by where you entered the Haulo Green from Jahara then do the same for the other group of three. Wait for them to die from Petrifcation - then run away far enough for them to respawn and then return and repeat. You will be 'stoning' groups of red and black chocobos then running away far enough to respawn them then doing it all over again. The odds of your Level 99 appearing in any group of Chocos in one in 256.

It took me over 8 hours of this before I personally spawned him. He appeared in the lower group and he is larger than the others. Before I caught his attention I had time to change my gambits to turn off all of the Break stuff and go back to traditional Attack. Set your Curaja gambit up to 70% and have Bubble, Bravery and Haste in place first along with of course - Arise. His primary attack is Choco-Comet and he delivers it quickly for 3800 HP damage per person hit. He is also hard to hit and parries often - he has a high evade statistic. He was immune to status attacks and it took me about 4 minutes using a Tournesol, Excalibur and Perseus Bow with Artemis arrows to take him down. My tank has the Grand Armor and everyone else has Maximillian. We had Shellga and Protectga going in. No one got KO'ed and had to be revived but there was a lot of Curaja going on.

When he died I got a Ribbon. Nothing in the Bestiary - nothing in the Sky Pirate's Den. But somehow it was worth it.

Good Luck!

Hmm...Well thank you for this useful information.

I myself have never killed the lv.99 chocobo and don't plan to.Mostly because I have 4 ribbons and i don't need the gemsteal either because i too have the tournesol.

8 hours is just too much, for others it might be worth it but not for me,The chocobo has nothing to offer me. tongue.gif

Thanks metalslime. I've beat FFXII twice, and got almost every weapon, most of the armor, all the hunts, all the espers, most of the rare game, etc. but never got the Level 99 Red Chocobo to spawn. I'm going to give this a shot later. But I doubt I'll have the patience to try for 8 hours (or the time). xD

Thanks again!

You're welcome!

It doesn't have to take you that long - that's just my level of "luck". You could spawn him in 10 minutes - it's just that chancy.

Hi Fran. I'm at 99s across the board and in all honesty he wasn't that difficult. I was probably more concerned about him than I needed to be.

A Ribbon is a very cool item. It's an accessory that protects you from status effects. It means that attacks that would normally confuse, sleep, berserk etc...will miss. I am not certain what status effects a Ribbon will fail to protect you from however.

The ribbon does not protect you from death however...

it would not be to much help to me if it is an acsessorie(SP) cause i sort of addicted to the buble belt i would feel insecure without it i mean it makes everything easy but the ribbion would realy help with fighting against the yamisaty thingy

he only has 3 little dots left but i have not played in about 2 days, so i have not beat him yet

Yaizmat isn't too hard without bubble belts.

I killed him with sage's rings, nihos and turtleshell chokers equipped. Wasn't hard at all. smile.gif

So i strongly recommend that you need to get a few Ribbons.

Niho is short for the 'nihopaloa'.

Costs 30,000 gil in the clan shop after a certain rank has been obtained.

The accessory reverses effects of all items,So if you had one of them equipped and you would use a potion on yourself, instead of the potion restoring you health,it would deal damage to you...
