Is there any architecture around the world that you particularly like the most? I personally like the Great Wall of China, and the Eiffel tower that is being located in Paris. I'm really hoping to see it real and to 'climb' on both of them in the future when I have the time and money to visit these two countries.

Got any favorites? Oh, and pictures are well appreciated in this thread, too.

I like the grand architectures of the ancient world mainly. The man-power and sheer effort put into building some of the buildings is just amazing. Here are a few pics:

Taj Mahal in India:

Hanging Gardens of Babylon (as they don't exist to this day, here is an artists impression):

The Leaning Tower of Pisa...

Greatest architectural fuck up ever.

http://torre.duomo.pisa.it/index_eng.html

I'd also like to see the Sistine Chapel

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Chapel

Although, that's more for the art then the actual architecture

Well, the ones that I think are great have already been talked about already, no use repeating. On another note, though, I think if Atlantis wasn't destroyed, it might still have the most unique and grand architectures the world has ever seen. I'm one of the remaining people who still believe that it existed. I hope they find it one day. smile.gif

I guess Im not surprised that so many people are choosing ancient works of architecture, but I think some of the most dynamic pieces of architecture are from the modern age...look at the intricacy of Big Ben and the houses of Parliament....even more modern, the John Hancock Building in Chicago which from an architectural standpoint is ridiculously strong it can force your eyes to move along itself, very cool. In terms of ancient works... Id say that Hagia Sophia, and the Church of Saint Basil's are amazing to look at both on the outside and inside...

LOL and the beloved FFXII has some ridiculously intricate architectures in the cgi cutscenes...can you say Archades or Draklor? I just sat there in awe....

Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, doesn't compare to the wonders of the world but I recently toured the whole thing and really enjoyed it, lots of unique architecture and one of the first houses ever to have an indoor swimming pool and bowling alley, In the basement for that matter.

Good luck climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower...they barely let you climb half way...you have to take and pay for the elevator to take you the rest of the way.

I really liked the chateux chenonceux (spelling)
I also want to see the great wall...and...I like pagodas biggrin.gif

^ The mid observation section would be my stop if I climb it. I'm also interested on the overall structure of the tower. For which to view it from bottom up. Anyway, I've no plans for France yet. Or Europe for that matter.. Until then, I'll keep that in mind; less climbing upward. tongue.gif

Im fortunate enough to have climbed the great wall of china, visited the Taj Mahal, touched the great Pyramid of Giza, entered the Sistine chappel, seen the leaning tower of Piza, glimpsed at stonehenge, travelled up the Eiffel tower and circled around the Colisseum of Rome.

Ive also seen some other brilliant, but less well known sites from all over the world. One place I havent been to is Greece. Id like to see the Parthenon over there.

Id have loved to see the Temple of Zeus and the Colossus of Rhodes as well. But they no longer exist. Shame.

Interesting fact: The guy who built the Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan intended to build a black Taj Mahal on the opposite side of the river, near the white Taj Mahal. But his son kicked him off the throne and locked him away, so that never happened. It would have been so amazing.

Hahaha...but if you do ever end up getting to go to Paris...do go all the way to the top of the tower...the top section is soooo cooool! It has this thing lining the tower that tells you what coutnries lie in the way you are facing and how long it takes to get there (in distance) smile.gif So cool!

And the Louvre is an absolutely amazing building with amazing (for lack of better words) paintings and sculpture work. I cried when I went there...it was so compelling. But thats what I get for being an art major and obsessing and studying this stuff forever.

This is Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion Temple) from Kyoto, Japan. Other than the name, I've heard the building is coated with real gold..

^ I went to the La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona (and to see the Astronomic Clock Tower in Prague), it's really wonderful and bizarre. Gaudi's art style is different, I love how it's gothic yet the shapes and the design - all calculated to work, shame La Sagrada was not finished. Park GŁell is also very pretty.

As disgusting it maybe to some, it's fascinating; artistically and architecturally.

Plus, I want to visit Gyeongbok Palace, pretty...
IPB Image
I love how it's just like in nature.

Also as SA mentioned the Golden Pavilion Temple and the Silver Pavilion Temple.
Inuyama Castle which is said to be one of the oldest castles in Japan.
IPB Image

The Freedom Tower in Iran is pretty cool as well.
IPB Image

Also, the Winter Palace in Russia and the Church of the Twelve Apostles and Church of the Deposition of the Virgin's Robe. Strangly I really adore Russian architecture. And the Chateaux in Loire Valley are all so fantastique.

OMG the winter palace is amazing! Never been there...but the picture looks amazing! And the Chateaux are definatly amazing. I only got to go to two. I dont even remember the second one because I think I slept through it (three days with 4 hours of sleep will do that to you). My the Chateux Chennonceu was so cooool! My friends and I went to go rowboating and we had a rowboating war! We started trying to knock eachother into the water with the oars! Ahhhhh....yes.......
