So what is the Operating System that you like to use?

I use Windows, only because Yellow Dog Linux on the PS3 doesn't support the RSX, and flash isn't supported yet on it. If those two things, plus the fuzzy text on my television, I would use Linux, but I use Windows XP. I hate the bigness and blandness, and uncustomizablity of Win XP, and I hate Vista. I seen Vista at my neighbors house, and it's so... meh. I like how you can customize Linux, and I also love that it's free. smile.gif OSX is good for Photoshop, but I never used OSX, I only seen it being used at a graphics tee place.

I use XP for now. I'm not apt to swtich to Vista anytime soon, I'd use Linux, going for something like Ubuntu or Gentoo, just because I like getting down and dirty.

i wish you had made it a "check" type of poll so that i could choose mutliple options tongue.gif

I have Vista on my PC

but i do have Linux on my PS3 and i've used it a lot more than to play games xD

watching vids on it instead of the monitor is sooo much better smile.gif ...of course i have a standard tv, so most of the videos are formated to a norm tv (640x480) and things like 720p is slugish :/

XP user here...

But I already used Linux :
- Mandrake (now known as Mandriva)
- Knoppix,
- and I already installed Fedora Core, but I didn't used it (I'd installed it during a training course).

Before I wanted to try Debian but I chickened out !!! laugh.gif I prefer OS with good graphical interfaces !

It is quite easy. It was easy for me to do, and I never used Linux before. I just went by the instructions, and I got it done in one night... well, it took me like from 10 at night till 5 the next morning. It takes a long time to format the PS3 hard drive.

how come you had to format the drive? i just did a quick format from the XMB xD

I used Gentoo instead of Yelow Dog (although I downloaded and burned the DVD ISO :/), since people said Gentoo was more customizable and programs are more easy to install (if they only have to be compatible with PPC) and it only takes a CD

It's true that it's customizable, but it doesn't have a Windows Manager, so when you first get to Fluxbox all you see is a black screen and a small "taskbar"

It's a bit hard to install, but if you follow the instructions, it's fairly easy even if you've only played around with DOS Commands

and then after it's done you can then install kde or gnome, or w/e, within a few minutes because of the GRP package repository

then make an edit and change from Fluxbox to KDE smile.gif

and finally install MPlayer and VLC quickly laugh.gif

you can check QJ's PS3 wiki for more info

I use Windows XP. I'd like to upgrade to Vista, but I really can't afford it right now. I'm satisfied with XP, though.

I'm satisfied with my XP too. Windows is basically only OS that I can understand and use.

I use Windows XP and I love it, I don't mind, it runs fine and i can do pretty much anything i like with it, however I do prefer Linux, because it just looks so gobsmackingly brillient.

Sandli - How does Windows suck then?
They must really suck to have 91% of the market share in computers.rolleyes.gif

Well I have a laptop and a desktop (to myself, not family shared, they break everything.), I stuck Ubuntu onto my laptop to show my dad that Linux is a great operating system as well, as he was contemplating getting it for his desktop, now he is Linux 100% lol

I remember the days of having a family computer, couldn't install anything without everyone agreeing. lol :\

Why don't you just put Celena Mint onto a CD and everytime you go on the computer you can just boot up with that? So you have it, then take it out when they want to use it. happy.gif
