Alright, I'm sure that there have been other threads similar to this, but I've decided to make a brand new one: The Anime Recommendtaion Thread, where you or others can post or ask for recommendations on what to watch, instead of digging through the net and it's countless pages

More recently, I've been watching whole series at a time, since I don't like to watch episodes once a week (it just get's really annoying imo) especially if they're in Japanese (I have a bad memory sometimes, and subtitles + a week's time = forgetfulness). So then I don't recal wth is going on by the end (ie, Ergo Proxy)

So, since I'm done watching a few things, and the last thing I just decided to watch, after seeing something about it online, was kinda boring (Basilisk). I need some suggestions

Only thing to keep in mind: I like seriousness and hilarity (pretty much) +good endings (so many animes have lousy ones :?)

Okay well, don't ever watch Berserk because they were too lazy to finish the very last episode.
I'll make a small list of ones you can try. I'll post more if I can think of any better ones =/

Noein http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,2973,sj...___mo_hito.html (here's one if you like confusing crap like different timespaces.)

The Twelve Kingdoms(I haven't watched a lot of it yet, but it's decent)
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...nime.php?id=840

Wolf's Rain(the ending isn't lousy.. you have to understand the meaning of it) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf's_Rain

Scrapped Princess http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,1161,qj...ped_prince.html

My recommendations:

- El Hazard -The Magnificent World- OVA (Has quite an RPG vibe in it. Good variety of characters. Alluring background music. Good humor, and the ending was not as bad as I thought it'd be)

- Honey&Clover (A cute romantic anime series that has to deal with students who are attending at an art college.)

- Kare Kano [AKA. His and Her Circumstances] (A romance comedy that's filled with emotions, meaning it has its drastic, random moments but overall a great watch, Imo)

I'll come up with more later on. ^^

Edit: Oh and I think this thread deserves to be pinned!

- Noir
It's a good recommendation for anyone who likes drama anime.
- Monster
Great anime, deep storyline and a good cast of character. Downside: you have to chew through 74 episodes.
- Boogiepop Phantom
A nice addition, especially for thriller fans. Good suspense and only 12 episodes, so easy to watch in one go.

What is OVA? I've always wondered that...

Right now I'm stuck watching Naruto, not that I'd recommend it - it hasn't finished yet but so far I like it. A little too much filler though.

The one thing I would recommend would be Avatar: The Last Airbender. It's not considered an anime though, it's American with certain anime influences (Miyazaki).

OVA - On Video Animation, or "straight to video release"
Not aired on TV, or released Theatrically. Sometimes it can also be a small series that was aired and then released shortly after on video

I think I'll take the Wolf's Rain rec, since I've watched it before, but I've forgotten all about it smile.gif

Then maybe Kare Kano

I've seen Berserk, and there is no last episode because the manga is still going even 10 years later xD

Ok, thanks for that. I always wondered what it was, especially so after it was mentioned in an interview about Avatar (either the one where they ordered 3 more seasons or the one about season 3). Yes, I'm obsessed with that show.

One Piece. This shit is awesome. I'd recommend anyone to see it.

Much better than Naruto. Are the fillers for this even done?

Not sure though, don't watch Naruto.

I agree, the setting of One Piece is tons more broader then Naruto, since in Naruto, the story is most often centered with countless regions with nothing but ninjas... I would recommend One Piece as well, to people who enjoys action thriller with a decent storyline, I mean, they just keep on sailing on a grand adventure and doesn't look back. Unlike Naruto. Plain repetitiveness and blurriness. Though I have to mention that the length of the show is pretty long. I'm not even done yet, wait, I think the series itself is still ongoing.

Since I haven't recommended anything, I would recommend Gantz: it's weird, great, strange, scifi, interesting, stupid, and completely uncool

it's a mess of everything ranging from amazing to wtf! happy.gif

the whole time is just one twist into nothing, that will leave you without a guess. I didn't know anything about it, and after watching it a few months ago, i still don't xD

Basically, you're thrown into it from the very first episode, and then the end isn't really the end since there's a manga out there ...which is okay, because that end was just ??? huh.gif

But, I can't say that I didn't like it, or that i absolutely loved it, I just say it was "something" and you have to watch it! :b

PS: there is nudity and sex in it *cough*morethantheaveragefanservice*cough*

Speaking of weird, strange anime series, I also want to suggest anime films like Millennium Actress and Paprika. Both of these animated films were being directed by Satoshi Kon. His works are usually unique, and twisted, or what some people would say "random".

I have also watched Paranoia Agent, a TV series that he worked on, which is random like hell... disturbing at times, too. =/ To people who likes weird shows, check Kon's stuff.

Millennium wasn't weird, and i thought that Paranoia was actually disapointing since i thought it would be twisted like Perfect Blue (a must see for fans of psychodramas + anime)

but yeah, Gantz falls into it more near to Perfect Blue, except .....not, and without any kind of closure

I need to watch Paprika since Susumu Hirasawa did the music for it (as well as Millennium and Paranoia) (although I didn't like it or PA's as much, but it reminded me of his last album)

I wanted to watch Paprika for a long time now. Did it come out on DVD yet or is it going to? I have enjoyed most of what I've seen done by that guy so far. Is it on a similar level as Perfect Blue, for example?

Millennium wasn't weird
Yeah, the storyline should been described as more touching and deep. Sorry for the mix up there.

The DVD version as well as the Blue-ray will be released in late may this year for Japan. Though it's not so far away, still I waited anxiously for it, so I took a little sneak peek. (torrent'ed)

I can't make out any analogies to Perfect Blue since in all honestly I've never seen it. Though I would like to mention that in Paprika, Kon sort of did a little slack on the setting side of things since many sequences you see in the movie can probably reminds you some of his previous works like PA for one. They were sort of overused to me.

And well, I found it alarming memorable in the movie that there were a few events and visuals that captures some of the common stereotype issues primarily to the Japanese society, which I found it kind of clichéd but Kon managed to present them in his own style and perspective. So that neutralizes the negativity by some bits.

As an avid CLAMP fan. I suggest everyone go watch xxxHOLIC. I reallyyyy loved this show and I wish it didn't have to end. Try watching the movie (A Midsummer's Night Dream) to sort of get introduced to the series.

I also say that Gantz is definitely a must watch just because it is so fucked up.

Kiddy Grade is a worthwhile anime to watch. The visuals are fantastic and the storyline, while something not very new, is really fun to watch. The voice acting, both English and Japanese, is of very high quality.

If anyone is interested in the shoujo area of anime, just let me know and I can give tonsss of titles that I have found to be really good.

I'm not even an "anime person" (tongue.gif), but since no one else has suggested this yet, I feel it is my fangirl duty to do so:
FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST!!!! I adore it. It has the kick-ass elements, comedy to break up the incredibly heavy stuff, and it's also heartrending. I really, highly reccomend it.
