Not sure whether anyones asked before but could you think about making some of the message boards e.g. spamwall and grand theatre private only for members who have actually signed up to the forum.

I dont see the point of guests watching us post in these threads when most of the time guests have only come for the helpdesk.

Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with this?

I'm quite liberal and content with the way that its currently operating. Having guests observe that doesn't really bother me at all. I mean....is it considered a privilege to read spam? xD

Im not obessed with getting it changed, if it doesnt happen I wont mind too much I just get the willies thinking someones watching me.
I just dont see the point in it not being private.
I mean what are guests even here for if not help, why read everything else.

Sometimes, lurkers just observe things like that to get a feel of what the forum community is like. I understand your feelings about it being a bit creepy lol.

I don't really see the difference. I don't feel that there would be any positives or negatives in changing it. If there are creeps out there watching you, don't you think that if they REALLY want to spy on what you say, they'll just register anyways?

I don't really care if guests are 'watching' me, but from my personal experience, i like to read around the forum first before i join to see if i like the community so i think it's fine the way it is now.

I like this idea. IMO, this would actually get those guests to sign up. Like, for example, gamingbl. (a huge gaming site that I'm a part of), we require lurkers/guests/people to sign up to view some sections of the forums and those sections are the important and fun ones so if people want to read it, they had to sign up. Then, people strarted signing up and the site just got popular day-to-day. Don't know, people just started reading and posting.

IMO, this idea is freaking brilliant. Disable lurkers in the sections you specified, it could be other sections, any sections as long as they are important ones that lurkers like to read.

If it is to attract members, then I think Spam section is the least favourable section to be member-only. I mean, it doesnt give much info/content/whatever for someone who goes read that section. All they get from it is which members are mature and which are immature. tongue.gif

Honestly, members who register just for the sake of reading somehting and then ignoring the forum for the rest of the time are useles..

On the other hand, it can attract members indeed. Just not the Spam section.

I disagree. I just signed up this morning, but I was wandering around the different forums to get a sense of what it is like here and get a feel of the place.

You can also have members being creepy as well as guests, so it really wouldn't matter
