Since this doesn't really fall under the topic of avatars and signatures....
I've been working on turning an incomplete sketch I drew of Ashe a while ago into my first serious attempt at painting digitally. So far, I've already messed up by making her skin too tan, and I've run into a wall with her denim-like....thing around her waist. I'm not quite sure how to achieve the right texture since this is new to me. Any suggestions would be helpful!
The full-sized piece can be seen here: http://glasslotus.com/ashecolor2.jpg
Bear in mind, this is my first attempt, and I'm only using a mouse!

so you want to add texture to the belt?

that's not really a "digital" technique, but it's just the way you use the colors

so far everything looks kinda leathery or plastic like, so my guess is that you need to stop blending the colors/highlights so much, since something like denim won't reflect as much light as a plastic would

Ashe's skirt is supposed to have a shiny plastic-like texture though. I'm not sure what the exact name of the material is...only that it was popular for vests in the 80's. laugh.gif

Larien, the best thing you can do right now is look at real photos--for her pose, how shading on the skin looks, the contour of her stomach, folds in clothing. Just Google several images of models and study to see how everything should look. Draw what you see, not what you think you see.

I did a quick paintover to help you in some areas:

Hope it helps a little.

(Looks like I spelled 'anatomy' wrong. tongue.gif)

Oh wow, guys! I haven't checked back to this topic in a long while.
shok.gif Thank you so much, Jawhawk!!! And that was your "quick paintover"? I'm so envious of the ease you paint with. I think that's one of my problems with this - too much caution. Anyways, thanks a bunch for the advice! *hugs in gratitude* biggrin.gif I'll try to fix those things!
@Binibini: I use Photoshop 7.0

Make sure you actually finish your drawing, too. I didn't visit the topic every day, waiting for your response, all for nothing.

^ Don't worry, I'll do my best to finish it. Just as soon as I can find some time to do so. :-/

EDIT: http://glasslotus.com/ashecolor3.jpg
I'm still working on the shading, anatomy issues, and the denim bit around her middle (that part is still old). smile.gif
