what makes you say that America has low respect for other countries? You are generalizing America and EVERYONE in it as a whole. DON'T.

QUOTE
A lot of Americans think that the world is America. They're ignorant and oblvious to everything going on outside. They're oblivious to a lot of things going on inside as well. Americans seem to naively live inside their own cocoon. They dont learn from others mistakes, they just carry out the same old mistakes, over and over again without learning anything.

That goes for EVERY country, not just America...and that post is the proof rolleyes.gif

^It really, really doesnt.

A lot of people in other countries are aware. A hell of a lot more than people in America. And while the last part is true for many, its not true for Japan for a start.

And how do you know this?
Because of the stupid statistics?

You REALLY can not take statistics to the heart and judge a country you do not live in by them.

Personally I can talk from experience. people I've met and stuff and the vast vast majority of British people I've enocountered DONT have the "Oh Britain's great we're so much better everyone should do things our way" complex.

But at the same time I can't honestly say I've personally experienced tons of American people, and generally those that I have met dont think about America that way either.

I do however think a few of those RUNNING America have the god complex thing, and thats where the country gets its bad rep from.

@RB: Because Ive travelled a lot. Ive been to America many times (a total of months) and spoken to the people there. Very nice, sincere people, but they say the most stupid things. Here's some examples:
-------------------------
Where y'all from then?

London.

Is that in India?
----------------------------
I was at an American Indian tour, and the tour guide say...

"He chronicled his accounts of them during the 16th century"

"Was that when the American Indians arrived here?"

----------------------------
So where are you from originally?

Sri Lanka.

Ahhh, so where's that?
--------------------------------

My experiences have been backed up strongly by statistics though. Your complete disbelief of statistics is over the top. When many statistics agree they sound out a powerful message that cant be ignored. Disagree all you like, but the evidence shows that American world knowledge is one of the worst (if not the worst) in the world out of the developed countries.

My disbelief in statistics comes from my college education, and what that class taught me was to never use statistics as the truth...only a small percentage of what is really out there is accounted for in statistics wink.gif

And wherever you went, you talked to some stupid people...and you are basing your "experience" on a TINY handfull of people you talk too.

I was actually being sarcastic about the law of averages...

Hmmm...I didnt make it obvious enough.

But seriously, if you take a big enough sample it is very likely to produce a reliable result assuming the questions are decent. Its like throwing a dice 6000 times. You'll get roughly one thousand of each number.*

Trust me, I tried. laugh.gif

It is easy to claim that american's are ignorant but i have experienced high levels of ignorants from many a brit. The amount who think Africa is a CONTINENT is ridiculous. Recently, Dr Watson (scientist who found out the structure of DNA) claimed that coloured people were more stupid than white people. You can be intelligent, a doctor and still be ignorant. I think in all countries history is often focused from there own point of view. Although i am learning about both American and British history it should be noted i know next to nothing about the history of other countries. Key Gaps in knowledge cause ignorance and it should be tackled as shit like this causes conflict between countries.

^Exactly. Ignorance is what causes many problems.

Watson had no reliable evidence to make that claim though.
