All 6 of my characters are at level 45-48 and I opted to lose the mini-map. I strolled through the First Ascent with no problems, but now I'm getting swarmed by skeletons who aren't even undead (I tried Curaga-ing them).

What level were/are you at this point? What's your favourite way to kill all these skeletons? How do I keep my leader (and therefore the rest of the party) attacking the same foe until it's dead?

I think you should restart the whole thing but without items. Other choices are a lot of pain to deal with. You have good levels.

I disagree with Chrono. Most of us went without the mini-map because you can always hit select and use that map.

To get all your characters to attack the same foe as your party leader set your gambits like this

Party Leader: Foe~least HP~attack

other Characters: Foe~Party Leaders Target~attack

Disagree if you want, I did what I wanted and it worked. To each its own deal, I guess.

I agree with JudasOne, the mini-map is by far the easiest to part with, because it is so simple to just bring up the in-game map with the select button. I tend to use Phoenix Downs instead of Arise, because they work so much faster, so I didn't want to part with my items. Just set up your attack gambits like JudasOne suggested, that way all party members will keep attacking the same foe until that foe is dead.

I rarely use items, I rely mostly on spells.

O on the other hand hardly ever used spells except for healing, ailments and on occasion buffs. But for the most part they were too damn slow.

I agree with chrono.
spells are a lot more useful and i rarely use items.
plus it would become a hassle to always have to open the full map(I'd get tried of doing it).

You don't. You give them the needed accessories. Ribbons for that fact, are the best.

I use Embroidered Tippets...

I tried not to rely on items because I was constantly running out of them, and gil isn't the easiest thing to come by.
