In Missouri, they are trying to pass a proposal to ban swearing, table dancing and drinking games in the bars there.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22559988/

This is a violation of our civil rights, but others are saying they just wanna keep the rowdy crowd down.

WTF? You can not be serious!! You can not ban swearing and drinking games in a BAR....oh, and the music..

I do not understand why people think that if they keep banning stupid shit like this, it will make it better...it won't....they will find ways around it!

They have already banned smoking from bars, and just about everyplace else except your own private vehicle....next lets ban ALCOHOL! That will solve all the problems with "rowdy crowds" rolleyes.gif

So what do you think?

Would you vote for or against this proposal and why?

If their proposition has been fairly represented, then its really stupid.

People should have freedom and banning it just isn't a solution either.

I would definately vote against this proposition. They'll find out if they do it that it'll be bad for business. I mean seriously who's gonna show up there after allthe fun stuff is banned. I never go to a bar that i can't get up on the table and work it wink.gif.

*Sigh*

This is one good think about living in the UK. Even though we get games and films etc later then the States, we also have to wait for the rediculous freedom inhibiting laws to catch on.

If this passes what's next? Like you said, why not ban alcohol. Not noly does that mak people rowdy but its bad for them as well! The pub is one of the few places you can do this stuff, essentially shut that down and the next place you cant have fun is your own home. And I doubt it'll be too too long before they come a-knocking.

And what about freedom of speech? I can UNDERSTAND a law against saying things to provoke/plan terrorism etc, even if I dont agree with em. But swearing doesn't do that. It's a shame "Fuck off and die" isn't a legal argument cause I think some of these people need to hear it. (Note how "Fuck off and die" is specically a phrase rather than the actual expression of a hope that someone dies. The very essence of the fact that swearing is expressive language and nothing more sinister than that).

And how is this supposed to make things less rowdy? Shouting "OH BALDERDASH!!!" at the top of your lungs at 1a.m is just as rowdy as "C***s***ing motherf***er!!!"

^LOL

I dunno.....but I think it is absolutely ridiculous.

They tried doing the same thing here in washington with a few bars actually, but they didn't pass.

I wish people would just fuckin back off and let people do what they want to...I mean..if they are in a bar, they are not harming anyone....and there are more problems that do NOT surround the bar atmosphere...

hell, lets ban banking....then people couldn't rob the banks causing a scene and bringing all the loud sirens disturbing the neighborhood..hey! while we are at it, lets ban the sirens on the cop cars as they are too loud and disturbing!

Lets ban driving, then people won't listen to loud music

lets ban parties, even childres parties because the loud music is disturbing the neighbors

I also thought we were a republic country, but it is ran like a democracy....doesn't make sense.... (and yes, we are a republic country regardless of how it is ran)

Nonsense, the lack of inhibition and loss of rationality when drinking would make such a law untenable.

^Exactly LOL Sounds like bullshit to me, at least with smoking there was a significant enough amount of the population who wanted it banned, but swearing!! wtf makes no sense whatsoever, it would never get accepted by the pubs let alone the peeps who go em.

Well smoking at least had a health basis, even if it was a bullshit law. Swearing doesn't give you or the people around you lung cancer.
