Could you put that fun fact in a bit of context? Is that most expensive to MAKE or what? If so I can tell you that 100,000 is the wrong figure, lol. Seeing as Halo 3 was upwards of 30 million....

Look at my post below - GTAIV apparently cost 100 MILLION, I made a mistake in saying 100 thousand.

And Halo 3's cost generally came from marketing. The marketing of that game was HUGE.

Halo 3 probably had the most expensive MARKETING campaign. Ever.

Killzone 2's cost 30 million and it's marketing campaign hasn't started.

I got the free month of gold with GTA4 (same with Lost Odyssey). I got a map as well, did everyone get that?

Multiplayer deathmatch is pretty boring when you compare it to other games like Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. The gametype where you're free to roam the city is awesome though.

I HATE holding A to run. It means you can't move the camera around while you run (you don't have two thumbs on your right hand). They changed it for multiplayer because they must have realised how important it is to people able to run and check their surroundings. In my opinion, its just as important in single player.

Let me go recheck the article...

EDIT:

Yea, GTAIV cost 100 million to make, NOT 100 thousand.

QUOTE
An interesting article about Grand Theft Auto IV appeared in The Sunday Times today. The newspaper was given a rare interview with Leslie Benzies, the producer of every GTA title since GTA III.

The interview gives us a brief look at his life, which has seen him move from one of the most remote areas in Scotland to a leading position at the country's top video game developer. There's also mention of the rivalry between Benzies and David Jones, the top man at competing developer Realtime Worlds. The two companies are the product of a rift between the early GTA team, which has resulted in colorful opinions and competing games - GTA IV and All Points Bulletin.

Moving back to GTA - Benzies says that almost 1000 people played a part in the development of GTA IV. He believes the cost could be around the $100m mark, making this one of the most heavily staffed and expensive video games to date. If you read just one more article about GTA IV before you get the game on Tuesday, make it this one.

100 million means nothing really when you factor that into game development. I bet you it's 100 million because of the songs they put in the game. You know artists and record labels want a lot of money from you when you put that kind of stuff in anything. It's still expensive if you factor that, though. All I can say is Rockstar is very lucky they didn't screw this game up big time. That would have been 100 million down the drain. Oh, and I still find it weird that we still don't know what that DLC for the 360 is.

^Or even remotely what it is.

I love GTA4 to death. ^^ I get withdrawal syptoms within an hour or two of getting off.

Updated Impressions

-I'm used to the driving, now I love it. biggrin.gif

-The police chases are getting better. I still think its a serious problem that it takes so long to get out of your car and into another one. If your far away enough from the police that they don't know where you are, you really should just keep driving. They're drawn to you magically the second you get out of your car. It would be good if the chase stopped after a period of time as well. If you're perfectly hidden they should leave.

-The gunplays good as well. Its not as good as most shooters, but its likeable. I find it annoying how small the health bar is. You barely know when you've been hurt and you can't check it every second so you end up dieing when you least expect it.

-Holding A to run is so FUCKING annoying! Apart from the annoying it is to be constantly holding a button, it means you can't look around when you run, and when you're being chased that's extremely important. How are you supposed to know who's chasing you when you can only look behind you if you're walking?

-Music is awesome.

-Cutscenes and story are awesome, I'm LOVING it.

^Ok, thanks I did miss it. I didn't receive one and I'm kinda pissed about it. I sent an e-mail to Rockstar and maybe if I'm lucky they'll take pity on me and send me one. Although with GTAIV selling like crazy one customer isn't going to matter.

Thank god for subtitles in this game! Badman sounds like my Grandad...I couldn't understand him either! laugh.gif

I love the detail to this game, like going through the windscreen at high speed. I wasn't expecting that to happen! And just as I got used to driving a car they introduce a motorbike mission...it could take me some time xD

This game is so amazing from a technical standpoint. I'm just in awe of it everywhere I go, from the insanely realistic damage modeling to the awesome atmospheric and environmental effects. 6 AM really feels like 6 AM, and 3 PM like 3 PM. No other game has done this so well.

The story is slow but getting better. There are fewer "gimmicky" characters than in previous GTA games, which makes the story a bit easier to take seriously. It's still a funny-ass game though. And damn there's so much to do. The music is awesome as well--I can listen to every single station for extended periods of time, every single one.

9.5/10 so far for me.

For comparison, I'd give GTA: Vice City a 9.7 because of its absolutely amazing atmosphere, unmatched city layout, nostalgic music and radio, exciting missions, and great characters. Plus, at the the time, introducing helicopters and motorcycles was a technological feat.

GTA: San Andreas gets an 8.5 because it seemed more "broken", and it was boring. Plus the radio was borderline horrible.

FFXII gets a 9.8 laugh.gif

I've seen some screenshots & they're amazing, can't wait to get it.

I have 2 questions:

1. Is the city big? like bigger than the one in GTA: San Andreas.

2. Can you have random people in your car while driving?

1) Massively big, but not as big as San Andreas. Certainly no bigger. They went for perfecting the formula rather than a really empty city.

2) Sometimes, if you drive off quickly enough before they get out! Though the cops chase after you if they see the passenger screaming in the back.

I've played the game for a while now and my only real complaint is that when you fail a mission and have to start it over you have to drive all the way to the mission and listen to any dialogue over again.

For instance I'm having trouble with a certain racing mission and every time I try it I am forced to get a car, drive to a special car with this annoying guy saying the same thing constantly, then drive to the racing start point before failing miserably. Rockstar should just have me start at the starting point of the race, the rest is just annoying after doing it the first time.

^ Dude take the racing mission slow! The AI is pathetic :-)

Completed it once now. Pretty crappy ending (the one I got anyway)which surprised me. Awesome game though!

Damn, I didn't know there were multiple endings. Hopefully you don't have to replay the entire game to get all the endings.

@Fox: How does driving slowly ensure that I will win a race? Do the other cars all crash? I will give it a try later today though.
