Well I've finished every MGS but none of the endings seemed to drag like this one did, ohwell.

The ending was awesome, and didn't fall into retarded Halo-3-esque cliches. Has there even been a game with such a satisfying ending this gen at all? They've pretty much tied every thing up, and left it open for sequels, but also made them unnecessary.

How long is the game and what's the split between gameplay and cutscenes?

A huge thanks to everyone for marking spoilers by the way. smile.gif

I put in 17 hours into it. It's different for different people, I guess.

I would like to think it's half and half with gameplay and cutscenes. Which is only appropriate for the last game in the series.

^Sounds awesome, thanks. I've heard other people say they took 25 hours. For an MGS game, that's really good.

I had 17 hours too.

And about the ending, it was alright at first, the part that dragged was the part with (SPOILERS)
Big Boss

(/SPOILERS)

Aside from that though it was a pretty good ending.

I'd disagree with that. Finished it last night and I didnt think there was nearly enough gameplay. Story is brilliant but there wasn't enough game in there overall. Take MGS3 for example, loads of cutscenes but there was loads of actual playtime in there as well, forcing you to learn loads of different ways of sneaking around, using camo, hunting for food... but in MGS4 I used about 3 weapons throughout the whole game and the octocamo wasn't as useful as I expected it would be. Certainly a step down on MGS3s camo system because it wasn't as effective.

And another thing that seriously disappointed me: Codec calls! In MGS1, 2, and 3 you could ring 5 people at any one time and talk about weapons, tactics or just have a chat about things. It was brilliant, but there's almost none of that in MGS4 and only two people to call which is a shame.

As an end to the saga I think it was mostly brilliant, the story was fantastic and even though I kind of predicted it my mouth dropped open at the end. But there wasn't enough "game" in there.

Overall an 8/10 from me.

Edit:

Oh yeah, who agrees that Raiden COMPLETELY redeems himself?!!?

I do! I loved him in this game.

I noticed the same thing with the codec too. And about there not being enough "game" in there that's probably true for the second half of the game. The first half however was fine.

^ Yeah first half was all roght on that front though I still think the first two acts could have been a bit longer. Just 2 or 3 more extra areas on each would have been much better, and maybe some different environments like a river or something.

Still, I'm hoping that they'l do another MGS game, even if the story is about someone new, or not even about Metal Gear. A stealth game that balances story and gameplay as well as MGS1 did but with the visuals and system of MGS4.

Although personally, I'm hoping for remakes of MG1 and 2. The infilatrations of Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land where games made before storytelling was a big thing in games, so they lacked alot of depth that could be put in there now.

And Raiden he's like a different person. I liked him before and i still like him now.

About the codec calls...yeah i wanted more....more!!!Only two people to talk to? Thats sad >_>

The ending, though I haven't beaten it to witness it myself, is apparently close to an hour - the longest cut-scene.

Also:

*SPOILERS for Act 2*

I've only seen/played through Act 2 and thus have only faced one boss, Laughing Octopus. Awesome, awesome, and CREEPY boss. I love it.

*END SPOILERS FOR ACT 2*

Also, how would you rate each Act separately? Just so I can get a feel of what's to come from the end of Act 2 and onward.

Kojima got a lot of complaints from people about codec calls from previous games, so he probably took them out. Not to mention that codec calls were originally meant because you couldn't really do many cutscenes and stuff. With Blu-Ray, it's a non-issue.

Then you weren't varying it enough. It's so easy to fall into the trap of just using the M4 or whatever, but this game is better than that. I had loads of fun switching my weapons, trying out new tactics, sneaking, etc. etc.

Also, Act 4 was the best fucking thing ever. I spent 10 minutes just standing outside the building admiring it, with the great song in the background.

Delusive I'd probably rate the acts something like this..

Act 1: 10 - Great opening, nuff said

Act 2: 10 - Just as good as act 1, plus theres a freaking awesome boss fight.

Act 3: 7 - It was almost entirely cutscenes, barely any proper gameplay. The story was awsome though

Act 4: 9 - Pretty good overall

Act 5: 9 - Likewise

Going for my no kill no alert phase playthrough now... on Liquid Easy xD. Then I'll use the stealth camo and bandanna plus all my weapons and stuff to take on The Boss Extreme

Hey, I'm all for games having optional depth, but if its easier to go through the entire game with very little depth thats a failing of the game, not the player. Imagine a first person shooter where you have loads of really inventive weapons but the most effective in every scenario is the assault rifle.

I wasn't playing on the hardest difficulty so that might be part of it, so hopefully this second playthrough am on will be better.

As for the Codec calls, I stand by my position. I'm glad Kojima took out all the really long mandatory calls and made them cutscenes, but all the optional stuff? They were really refreshing in MGS3, cause maybe you're curious about the new weapon you have, or maybe you want a break from sneaking just to have a chat with your support team. That element is going to be highly missed by me!

MGS4 is not a FPS. Remember that.
