Well, I might understand that advertising refer to things like putting an URL in your sig and mostly referring to a site of yours. Maybe this is thought to mention interesting sites over there, I think

This sub-forum is just not needed. And besides the rules seem hard to follow.

Maybe what Kajutsa means, is that sites that are similar to .net should not be advertised there. Or to put it simply:

No Planet FFXII or FFXII online links, right?

Of course, I could be wrong. So sorry if thats the case sad.gif

there is absolutely nothing wrong with .net's, it's just the way on how you bring it to the people.

Advertising means that you should not go all like 'VISIT MY WEBSITE AND JOIN MY FORUMS: [url here]

or: MY WEBSITE NEEDS HITS: [enter here]

however;
If you have a website, and you want to showcase your new layout, it's allowed to show that stuff. Or if you know one kick ass website that's extremely fun and you want to share it with others.

If I own a FFXII website, which I don't, I could come here and showcase my latest layout on it and ask for feedback (= good criticism) from members here

It works the same as artwork, just in the shape of a website

No, I dont think it works the same way as artwork.

It doesn't matter what label you put in it. A link is a link !!

I could write: "please tell me what you think of my site" in a link, and then flood you with advertise the moment you click on it. I would be advertising my site and making fun of your rules at the same time.

The rules must specify exactly what is allowed and what is not. What sites make the cut and what sites dont.

Is as simple as that !!

a weblayout is as much 'art' as a fanart is. Blending and creating a banner for example needs just as much creativity as a fanart and both are created out of scratch.
And a link is a link indeed, but not every link is an advertisement. This forum has a lot of links too, is that advertising? look! the 'User CP' is a link! it's an ad! no it's not

And ads on your website is a whole lot different then advertising your site yourself. It's not like those ads are part of your website, unless it's put on it on purpose by you. Still.. it's not advertising your website on this forum and you're not breaking a rule.

Most of the time, asking to review or comment on your own personal/ collective/ weblog/ graphic site/ fansite/ shrine/ portfolio / fanlisting - website is not advertising.

No Phoenix, I didn't mean that all links could be advertise, I just mean what I said:

A Link is a link: and thats pretty much the point of argument with this new section.

And rules apply all the time, not just "most of the time".

With 'most of the time' I was more referring to the comon sense a random posting person may or may not have, not to some rule. There will always be a mofo who lacks the knowledge of the meaning what reviews/feedback/fun-site is and starts advertising some stuff. But that's where moderators come into the picture to help him out.

Anyway, if you guys need guidelines for this, I'll try to get some in there. blink.gif I don't really see a problem though

Please do !!

Taking things (rules) for granted, could lead to more problems (bannings) in the future.
