@Xiitharn: Yes, I quite like it. smile.gif I like it, because it is something great. Something that I could never achieve even if I spent four weeks on one graphic. Inhert is da bomb, when it comes to graphics, and it looks like you are following him. Inhert is like a parent now. We all follow him. Hmm... maybe he's FFXII.Net's Yu Yevon? shok.gif

Random Tutorial... Just for fun
Software used: Photoshop 7.0
Skills Needed: Understanding of the GUI of Photoshop.
Time Needed: Approximately 10 minutes or less, depending on your skills.
Brushings Used: Only default (pre-installed) brushes, but I did use patterns, which I provide a link to.

~

WiReS and PiPeS & eVeRyThInG NiCe

Thick Wire---

1) Start with a blank canvas. I prefer the size to be approximately 500X500px., though the size does not really count. There's always the Crop feature, located especially for your use. The Crop feature is located in the top menu bar (Image... Crop), or you can take the easy route, and use the Crop button located on the Photoshop toolbar. The crop button is located in the top left hand corner, third button down. smile.gif

2) Grab the Pen Tool, if you are deciding to take a dive into this tutorial of mine. Now, with the Pen Tool in hand, make a nice straight Pen Tool line on your blank (transparent) canvas. This is how it should look, as of now, curves will come later: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/8826/penlineke1.gif

NOTE: The Pen Tool is located on the tool bar, and looks like a pen. It's the ninth button down, and is in the left hand corner of the toolbar. The toolbar is located in a pic in my first post in this thread.

3) For now, we will leave the Pen Tool alone, but we will come back to it. Now, click the Brush Tool, which is the fourth button down in the right hand column of the toolbar. Now, that you have the Brush Tool selected, click the drop down button that is located next to (Brush: -brush pic- |>|) at the top of Photoshop, underneath the menu bar.

Now that you have clicked the drop down button, click the button that appears to be a right facing arrow, in a circle. It is located in the top right hand corner. Now, choose the default (pre-installed) brushes that are named Drop Down Shadow Brushes.

NOTE: You can choose a circular brush, if you have some downloaded from Deviant Art, or some other free source of brushes.

With that, you can choose the size of the brush. I chose 13, so that way, my pipe/wire can be kind of hefty.

4) Now, make sure that you have black as your foreground color. This is seen in the Photoshop toolbar, close to the bottom, where they have two squares, one black and one white. Make sure, the top square is black, and that's all you need to do with the color for now.

5) Now, right click the Pen Tool in the Photoshop toolbar. From the list, choose Add Anchor Point Tool. With that selected, make points on the line that you have formed, and make the straight line that you have, curved, like so: http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6152/curvesnj7.gif

6) Still, with the Add Anchor Point Tool in your hand (or rather, cursor), right click on the line (exactly on the line) with your Pen/+ Tool, and choose Stroke Path, from the list that drops down from your cursor, since you right clicked. A box pops up, labeled Stroke Path. Make sure the tool that is shown, is the Brush Tool, if not, click the drop down arrow, and choose Brush, then ok. Your line should look like this: http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2362/blacklinelb7.gif

After that, right click on your line that you have formed, and choose Delete Path from the drop down menu that comes from your cursor. This will take the line off of your wire/pipe, and now it only has the the colored thick wire/pipe.

7) This part is not done like other people do it, because I have my own style. You see where the Selection Tool is on the Photoshop toolbar? It's the button located at the top left, top button. It looks like a dashed rectangular box. Right click Selection Tool, and choose Single Column Marquee Tool. Click anywhere's on the thick black line you want, but you can follow how I did mine, if you want: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/1194/cuttingpn1.gif

The way I did that was, with the Single Column Marquee Tool, I clicked on the side of one block that shows in the background due to the work being transparent. Once I did, and remember, I am on the wire layer, nothing below or above, I Cut (Edit... Cut -or- Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl X). I kept doing that every block, until I got to the end. By block, this is what I mean: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/9862/blockkz0.gif

Those blocks are major important, especially if you are working on something transparent. The ruler is also a great device in Photoshop (View... Rulers).

8) Now, in the layers selection, right click the wire/pipe layer: http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3043/layersku2.gif

From the menu, choose Blending Options. Now, choose Drop Shadow, and make sure the Distance is zero (0), and that's all you have to change for Drop Shadow: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8194/dropshadowpn4.gif

Then, choose Bevel & Emboss, and Gradient Overlay, like so: http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/1470/gradbevbk7.gif - You do not have to change any numbers, but you could if you wanted to.

So far, my work looks like so: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/982/takingshrp4.gif - Notice, it looks like a wire/pipe. smile.gif

If you change figures around, and stuff like that, you can come out with some pretty nifty stuff. Let your imagination run wild; creativity is a must in graphic design.

EXTRA STEPS;

So, you want to add more stuff to your wire/pipe. Okay...

1) Grab the Rectangle Tool located in the Photoshop toolbar, which is the ninth button down, on the right of the toolbar. Now, you can make you a sign or whatever you fancy, on your wire. Make a new layer on top of your wire, and make the rectangle on that layer, like so: http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/5127/nameboxqe1.gif

2) You can add a Gradient Overlay to the rectangle, if you want. You right click the rectangle's layer, and choose Blending Options. Then, check Gradient Overlay.

3) For more of a better look, you can use the Rounded Rectangle Tool, located on the same button as the Rectangle Tool, but you have to right click the Rectangle Tool to get it. Make the rounded rectangle on a new layer, above or below the rectangle's layer. If you do it below, make sure you have a new layer below the rectangle's layer, and a new layer above the wire's layer: http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4025/roundvb8.gif - If you did the round rectangle on the layer above the rectangle, you need to move that layer, underneath the rectangle's layer.

4) Now, you can add a Pattern Overlay to the round rectangle, and a Bevel & Emboss if you want. I choose to do both, and both can be put if you right click the round rectangle's layer, and choose Blending Options. Line Patterns a.k.a. Scan Lines:

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/226316...q=line+patterns
Directions on how to install them, are located on the page. Do this before you open up Photoshop, since they will only show up that way.

5)
Screws.. ever made a screw before? Now, you can! Get the Elipse Tool, which is on the same button as the Rectangle Tool, and make a small circle on a new layer. Now, get the the Single Row Marquee Tool, and click on the center of the circle, and click then.. (Edit... Cut -or- Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl X). After that, you can add a Bevel & Emboss to it to make it look like a screw. Duplicate the layer with the screw, and put them whereever you want to. Look at mine: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8240/sc...dpatternjj0.gif

6) Now, you can add your name to the top of the rectangle box, like you would add text to any signature/avatar that you make. smile.gif

Finished product:

IPB Image

Some other workings that look much better than the work above:

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/544/design1tv1.jpg
**Kody is my real name, by the way. smile.gif

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/4224/design4an7.jpg

Major point. Be creative. smile.gif Try to see if you can attempt my work that I haven't made tutorials for yet. smile.gif

UPDATE AUG2706

Thin Wire---

1) You open a blank canvas, and I always choose to make it transparent which you can always change with an additional bottom layer that is filled with the paint bucket. Okay, now grab a hold of the Pen Tool, and make a line on the blank canvas. You can make this any size that you want, it doesn't matter the length of the line. See, wires can be any length that you want. Have fun with it. smile.gif Look: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/8826/penlineke1.gif

2) Click on the Brush Tool, and make sure that you have a circular brush (or Drop Down Shadow Brush), and make sure that you have it set to a low number, somewhere's between 1 and 5, is a good number. The size of it has to be small, since the wire that we are making is small. I chose 5, since it is kind of big, but small.

3) Click on the Pen Tool, again, and right click it to pull up the Add Anchor Point Tool. Now, make the curves on the line that you have made, just like you did with the thick wire. Once, you have the curved line, now you can right click on the line, and click Stroke Path, from the drop down menu that pops up from your cursor. Make sure that the tool is Brush. Once finished, click Ok, and then right click on the line, and Delete Path. You should have something like this now: http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7696/smallwirepd5.gif

You don't have to cut any thin lines, you could if you wanted to, just like with the thick wire, but this thin wire looks alright without the cuts.

THE AMAZING WORLD OF TEXT

Random Tutorial... Just for fun
Software used: Photoshop 7.0
Skills Needed: Understanding of the GUI of Photoshop.
Time Needed: Approximately 10 minutes or less, depending on your skills.
Brushings Used: None, you can use some if you wanted though.

1) Since, you have to use 450X150px. as the size of your signature on this forum, that is the size that I am going to use for this tutorial. So, make sure you have it set to transparent, because it will look cool if you have this transparent, trust me, it will. smile.gif

2) Okay, now just get the Horizontal Type Tool, and type your name on the transparent canvas. I did it with my name, just to show: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/3019/nameno5.gif

3) Now, duplicate the text layer. Like this: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/5045/duplizm3.gif - Now, rasterize each text layer, like so: http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/9701/rasterizezk1.gif

4) At this point, you can change the perspective of the text. Like so: http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/7479/perspectivelu6.gif - Once you have that selected, a box with little boxes on the corner show up. This is when you can play around and get a cool looking effect, like I did. I also did the bottom layer text the same way (perspective wise I mean). Then, I left the bottom text black, and changed the color of the text at the top. At this point, if you don't feel like doing the perspective of the bottom text, you can just duplicate the text layer that you changed perspective on, and place that text either on top or behind the other text. This is mine: http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4383/colorrm8.gif

Notice, that the text is rather jaggy. There are some text that won't jag, but maybe a little. If they have jagged edges, you can just get the Blur Tool, and blur the sides of the text.

5) Experiment, and use your creative side. You can do much things. Make your text look Bling Bling, amongst other things. Have at it. smile.gif

If you are using Photoshop, try this:

1) Download the brushes from the site that you wish, I usually download my brushes from DeviantArt.
2) Once you download them, you can cut and paste them into the Photoshop Brush folder. If the brushes are in a zipped folder, then you must unzip the brushes before you paste them into the Brush folder.

(Start/My Computer/C: Drive/Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Presets/Brushes)

3) Once, they are in that folder, you can use them in Photoshop by clicking on the Brush Icon in the Photoshop toolbar.
4) They will now be available to use, if you click on the drop down menu that appears at the top of Photoshop when you click on the Brush Icon.

----

If you do not use Photoshop, I do not know how to download and use brushes for other programs. Some people do know, though, since they use the free alternative to Photoshop, GIMP. I Private Messaged you a link to GIMP. smile.gif Oh, and the program Paint, that comes pre-installed on everybody's computer, can not use brushes.

There's no moderator, or even an administrator, that can do that for you. You have to reach 500 posts, and then you are capable of doing that yourself. Until then, you will just have to use your signature area for text.

Hey guys, I have a small problem, it kinda silly but pardon moi.

I tried to follow the tutorial here: http://lowieke-designs.com/tuts/tut123abstract.gif

The only problem is the 3rd step which tells: Now, place the render in your empty sig file

My question is - How Can I do that?

I always do this: Layer>New Fill Layer>Pattern, is this right or wrong?

I'm assuming it means: right click (on the render at the location) > select copy > then in photoshop select edit > then select paste

Thats one way to do it.

Hey I have a quick question for you all.

I am totally unable to create or resize images now because I, stupidly, deleted my one awesome photo program. I mean I guess I could resize it using paint or something but the file I want resized is a gif and I have NO idea how to get those to work. I posted my question elsewhere and I was told you need to extract all the frames, resize them, and then put it back together into a gif but again...I don't even know how to do any of that.

So my question is, can anyone resize the following gif? It's currently 250 x 109 but I need it to smaller to be appropriate for my signature. I'm not exactly sure what size that would be so I'm leaving it in the hands of you professionals tongue.gif

Appropriate for you signature? The size limit is 450 by 150 pixels so it's well within the limits. Or do you mean avatar size? Or do you mean combined current sig and animation?

Oh sorry for not clearing that up in my first post. I mean to say that I want to add the gif to my current signature.

*edit

I found someone who can do the editing for me. smile.gif

When you unzip the file, copy the font file & go to your fonts folder located somewhere in the Control Panel, and paste it there. It'll then install itself and you can use it. smile.gif

As for the banner, you could use a spiky text? I'm not sure. tongue.gif
