this one is just great.
lord of snow and shadows: book one of the tears of artamon
and prisoner of the iron tower: book two of the tears of artamon
theres more, but thats all i have right now. seriously, these are great. ever heard of vampires that can turn into dragons? sounds weird, i know, but this book makes it oh so cool.

praise for the books:
"Newcomer Sarah Ash has tapped into the largely unmined motherlode of eastern european folklore, added in an unusual soupcon of dracula and dragons, and set the resulting vision against an exotic russian background that will be both familiar and alien to western readers. well worth the read!" --kathurine kurtz, author of crusade of fire

"Sarah Ash has created a cast of varied and interesting characters and sent them off adventuring in an unusually complex world. (what a pleasure to find a fantasy novel with gunpowder in it!) Give her full marks, too, for a smooth style, breathtaking atmosphere, and a fickle, impetuous plot." --dave duncan, author of paragon lost

You HAVE to pick up Sabriel by Garth Nix... and the two sequels. I honestly think he's one of the best fantasy authors out there AND he's terribly overlooked.

I can't think of any other worthwhile fantasy books when I think of his works. Honestly. TOLKEIN AND NIX! WHA!

Edge Chronicles- this ones got really good illustrations- Paul Stewart, Chris Riddell. + it has loads of Goblins

My dad brought me home the first book after a business trip to London 6 or 7 years ago when they had just come out in England. I read 2-4 after they came out in America this past year. They're really great.

Also, one of my all time favorite series is the Dragon's Blood (aka The Pit Dragon Trilogy) series by Jane Yolen.

Eragon is a good one.

I also like The Wheel of Time ^^

Ummm...The Tamuli by David Eddings. The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks.

Is Eragon actually good for an older reader? I don't like watered down fantasy novels.

Terry Pratchett is good too.

Terry Pratchett is awesome. His entire Disworld series is just hilarious and wonderous all at the same time.

Terry Pratchett has also done a collaboration with Neil Gaiman (amazing author, check out Neverwhere - FANTASTIC read!) called Good Omens. Just phenomenal. It's funny, and fantastical.

Here's my recommended fantasy authors

Tolkien, GRR Martin (A Song of Ice & Fire), Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time), David Eddings (his 4 main series), Tad Williams (Memory, Sorrow & Thorn), Jacqueline Carey (Kushiel/Imriel series although a bit 'adult' in places), Robin Hobb (Farseer/Tawny Man series) ..... I could go on for a while smile.gif
